the s’Cool Gardens programThe Center for Sustainability at Santa Barbara City College has partnered with the Orfalea Fund’s s’Cool Food Initiative to spearhead the s’Cool Gardens program.

Mission

To connect students to their food and their environment through school gardens.

Objectives

To develop ADA accessible gardens in public schools throughout Santa Barbara County.

To support educators in using these gardens to enhance the learning experience of students through the integration of the garden into their curriculum.

Since the program’s inception in Spring of 2009, the s’Cool Gardens program has installed eleven and enhanced nine school gardens as well as supported three schools with their independent garden programs. Beginning the 2011-12 school year, the program will install two gardens and enhance four additional gardens in Goleta, Orcutt and Lompoc school districts and will continue to support the existing schools throughout Santa Barbara County.
