Our Mission

The mission of the s’COOL FOOD Initiative is to create a community of healthy children across Santa Barbara County who make educated food choices throughout their lives.

Our Goals

  1. To create sustainable “cook from scratch” school food service systems throughout Santa Barbara County; and
  2. To procure as many school foods and beverages as practicable from the smallest geographical area possible.

Our Objectives

During the period from October 2007 through September of 2008,
s’COOL FOOD will:

  1. Conduct a comprehensive needs assessment to determine:
    1. The extent to which each Santa Barbara County school district is able to meet our goals with existing resources;
    2. What additional financial and other resources will be needed by Santa Barbara County school districts to meet our goals; and
    3. How those resources may best be obtained and utilized.
  2. Create a county-wide, community-based education campaign designed to heighten awareness of:
    1. The link between what children eat and how it affects their health, behavior and ability to learn; and
    2. The link between our food system and the health of the planet.
